The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is funding the updating of six design standards for petroleum storage tank systems. ULC Standards has been awarded the contract to update the standards. Accredited by SCC, ULC Standards is a consensus-based standards development organization.

Storage tank systems for petroleum products protect the environment by preventing petroleum product releases, both aboveground and underground. Environment Canada’s (EC’s) Storage Tank Systems for Petroleum Products and Allied Petroleum Products Regulations make reference to more than 50 standards. EC, with input from SCC, has determined that six of these standards are outdated and are being updated to reflect current design technologies, processes and specifications.

SCC provides funding to ensure that updated standards are available for government and industry use in Canada.
