UL is pleased to announce that workshops are available to help you understand new changes to UL & ULC smoke alarm and detector requirements.

This three-day instructor led workshop will provide a fundamental understanding of the testing, performance and certification of smoke alarms and detectors based on revisions from the:

  • 6th edition to the 8th edition of ANSI/UL 217, Single and Multiple Station Smoke Alarms
  • 2nd edition to the 4th Edition of CAN/ULC S531, Standard for Smoke Alarms
  • 6th edition to the 8th edition of ANSI/UL 268, Smoke Detectors for Fire Alarm Systems
  • 3rd edition to the 5th edition of CAN/ULC-S529, Smoke Detectors for Fire Alarm Systems

Participants will learn about key technical differences between the standards, review a summary of ongoing harmonization efforts between the United States and Canada and will receive a detailed summary of many of the changes made to the standards, such as a summary of the recently adopted Polyurethane and Cooking Nuisance requirements adopted in ANSI/UL 217.
